A Rebel, A Ghost, Space Cowboys, and more… A Walk Through Time… Part 2

Anime through time part 2

I know. It’s been too long since I did part 1. I have a looooong list of anime to get through.

Just keep in mind, I am going by the dates the anime was released and not when I watched them.

Most of the anime I saw was with my son, post 2k. I can’t remember when I saw them exactly. I have had enough problems recreating my resume.

I am horrid with dates.

Yu Yu Hakusho

What do you get when you take a punk kid that does one selfless act, add in his bully and a couple of demons?

You get a wild ride where the jokes don’t stop and the action steadily ramps up. Yeah, it’s a typical formula, but it’s fun to watch.

I saw this on Adult Swim back in the day but never finished it. I introduced it to my husband subbed. We still haven’t finished it, but we will.

This is a fun show to watch.

Ninja Scroll

I watched this when a friend came over with the DVD. I have two words.

HOLY SHIT

This is NOT an anime for kids. From the adult themes to the chick who can kill when you, well, her this anime was uncomfortable for me, and yet I could NOT tear myself away.

This was my first foray into really violent and gory anime, and it wasn’t bad actually.

Would I watch it again? Sure. It’s rewatchable, in my opinion.

Ruoroni Kenshin

I cannot BEGIN to say how much I love this anime. It’s one of my personal favorites.

From the protagonist to the antagonist and all the people Kenshin meets along the way, this anime was wonderful.

Its historical backdrop makes it all the more interesting to watch.

When I can afford it, I will be purchasing the anime on DVD.

Ghost in the Shell

This was the first anime movie that caught my attention. I sought it out after seeing the series online. I wanted to see more, and I was NOT disappointed.

The symbolism, the story, and the characters were top tier. This is an existential crisis done right.

Major is constantly questioning if she was ever real or just a “ghost in the shell”.

I would recommend this to anyone if they haven’t seen it yet.

Cowboy Bebop

If you have been following this blog, you KNEW this was coming. You knew this was going to be on the list. Why would it not?

This is my GOAT. I will be buying the DVDs and the manga if I can find them. I will also be spending MAD money on the soundtrack.

Everything about this anime made me fall in love with it. Everyone on the crew has a back story and a past that makes them a relatable person, one way or another. This is one of those “slice of life” anime that is gritty, hard-hitting, and fun at the same time. I even had the movie on DVD at one time and will be buying it again.

Card Capture Sakura

I saw a few of these a long while back with my son, and I want to watch the rest of it. The linework, colors, story, and characters were fun.

More later, my little misfits,

Anissa “Maddy” Walker
