Mr. White flew into an immediate rage when he noticed the door to the warehouse was open. It turned to panic a second later when had done a sweep to find out Laura was gone, and the only hired muscle left was in his office with a bag of ice on his jaw.
Longbow was giving Laura the once over while she rolled her eyes and slouched.
He looked at her with worry chiseling his features, “I need to make sure he didn’t harm you. I’m calling Daniel to come and give you a proper check-up.”
Laura shook her head, “I’m fine, Daaaaad.”
Mims tried not to giggle but one snuck out.
Longbow shot her a look, “She was just rescued.”
“I am aware. I am also aware she’s been in worse situations, and you’ve only told her to report to Daniel. You’re overreacting, and I think it’s endearing.”
Pitbull and Nightshade smiled in agreement.
Mims looked at Laura, “Are you hungry, dear?”
“I haven’t eaten since yesterday.”
“Well then, go sit in the breakfast nook and tell us what happened while I whip something up for everyone and a little extra for you.”
She sat in the corner of the nook surrounded by Longbow and others and started telling them everything from when she came out of the drugged haze.
Mr. White started to pace taking care to miss the mess he made in his office. He knew he could not call Johnson again without the job being finished. As he flipped through the list of names on his phone his head would shake as he ticked off the reasons why the people would not be suitable. Knowing now what he didn’t before, he needed a specialized team and not any motley crew of runners he could slap together.
Nothing was coming to him. He knew his only option was to return the deposit on locating the team and go into hiding until things cooled down. He had switched to looking through his safe houses when his phone started to ring.
The voice on the end of the line was cold and devoid of emotion, “You have a job. I have a team. I am your only way out of your predicament.”
“Who is this?”
“Longbow.” Mr. White’s blood went cold.
“Why would you want to help me?”
“You and I are in the same line of business, and your only choices, as I see them are either to go into hiding or do business with the one person who can end you.”
Mr. White sat in his chair with his head in his free hand, “What are your terms?”
The crew smiled as they listened to Longbow laying out the terms.
Everyone on the crew except for Nightshade smiled as they listened to Longbow laying out the terms.
“You can use my crew. We take eighty percent of the total credits paid and promised to you by the Johnson. I will have people babysit you until the transaction is over. They will escort you out of the southern portion of the United Seminole Nation, and if we catch wind of you returning, you will cease to exist.”
Longbow waited for a reply. The group heard a muffled reply.
Longbow’s eyes were slits, “The mere fact you kidnapped someone dear to me should have me taking your entire purse. You have no room to negotiate.”
There heard another muffled answer.
“I knew you would see it my way, and yes, two of my finest will be waiting with you.”
One last murmur came through.
“I will send you the details of the meeting. I suggest you be on time and alone. Any deviation from the instructions, and we will find your Johnson and deliver you to him”
