Of Abductions and Ports with an Artist update…

The last couple of weeks have been rough. I have had a port inserted, but that isn’t all of it.

Cancer update: It was Aliens!

After the first infusion on the 6th of this month led to a stark realization. My veins were done. They weren’t going to take anymore poking, prodding, sample taking, and line starting. They were done.

I had to get a port inserted. Not ever having anything inserted in my person medically before, I was NOT looking forward to it.

The pre-op instructions included not being able to take my vitamins and minerals. This meant not taking my iron, B complex, or D3, the latter two helped me with brain function due to chemo brain from round one.

This was also the same time I had just done an open call to artists to get my herbal book up and running.

Have you ever tried sifting through emails and looking at art or trying to put information into cohesive sentences for a book with your brain shifting into neutral from time to time?

I would look at the art as if I was a small child wondering how cool it all was. There were small moments of lucidity where some of the art poked through the fog and imprinted, but that didn’t happen much.

As far as information assimilation goes, I would just stare at the sources with nothing popping into my head. I am reading the words, sifting through pages, and nothing coming together for book entries.

This is where the port is. I have been abducted by aliens again. This time, I walked away from it with an implant. Other than feeling like a slightly pulled muscle in terms of pain, it’s not that bad.

The whole process seemed to go by without a hitch. There were no complications, and now I am curious as to how the next infusion is going to work seeing how I have never had a port before.

Artists’ submission update

Submissions have been closed since June 5, 2023. I am currently looking through them as my energy levels allow and as my brain is getting back to being functional. If you are one of the ones who have received an update from me, you are still in the running.

Until Next Time,

Anissa “Maddy” Walker
