It is time. I have seen the trailer, and it was good enough for me to give it a chance.
So, I believe it’s time for me to dig into it and give you my opinion on the first episode. Strap in, and get ready for the good, the bad, and maybe some cringe.
Before we start…
On the left, you will find my reaction to the episode. I am trying to do reactions to all the episodes as well as reviewing them.
As always, even though I love Masters of the Universe, I will do my best to be objective.
The Story…
In the beginning, they did a quick recap for season one. This reminded me of the questions I had from the first season that were unanswered. We find out there is no Preternia thanks to Evil Lyn destroying it which leaves the spirits only one place to go, Scareglow’s realm.
There is a time skip, but we are not told how long it is. We see how much King Randor has aged along with some of the others. Adam, Teela, and others don’t seem to have aged that much.
We learn that it takes three magical forces to reconstitute Preternia: Zoar, Kah, and Havoc. Never having read the comics, this brought back memories of Captain Planet. It’s just the way my mind works.

We visit Skeletor long enough to learn he’s turned away from magic to embrace Motherboard. We are also introduced to Hordak.
Randor dies leaving Adam with a hard choice to make, does he want to be king? Does he want to be He-Man? He can’t be both.
We also have Keldor making an appearance during the funeral.
The Voice Acting…
I hate to say this, but except for a few spots, it sounded flat and unmoving to me. It sounded like they were just going over the lines to get it done.
I do give credit to Chris Wood for delivering the eulogy. He did a pretty good job of it.
The Animation…
I have no problems with the animation. It and the artwork are consistent when compared to the first season.
My Issues…
They never explained how Teela is able to leave Greyskull in her human form. This bothers me and will continue to bug me.
I don’t like the amount of power they gave her seemingly without limitations. She is able to destroy all the monsters in Scareglow’s realm and seal his realm without so much as breaking a sweat. That does not sit well with me. That is too much power without any consequence.
If Randor is on his last leg, why is he in a battle that has the chance to accelerate his death, which it does? The cynical person in me says it’s due to a plot device. It rushes the story to get to the main issue.
There weren’t any lessons learned from season one about keeping secrets as only Adam’s mother and one other knew about Randor’s condition. This is disappointing.
If there is no heaven/Preternia, how is Scareglow’s realm able to exist? Adam rescued the souls of two of his friends from there. How are the souls being kept in the kingdom?
I know am being nit-picky, but these are my observations.
I give the first episode 2.5 out of 5 espresso shots. It’s a middle-of-the-road start to the season.

Until next time,
Anissa “Maddy” Walker
