Cancer Journey

If I didn’t have bad luck…

Heyllo, everyone, it’s been a bit. I do have content lined up and plans on the horizon. I just wanted to drop a few lines on my cancer journey. Strap in, y’all.

For those of you new to my chaotic, yet creative, side of the internet. For the better part of ten years, the husband and I were living out of semis only changing vehicles when he changed companies for better pay. This left me making content, scrounging for freelance jobs, and seeking out what little income I could while on the road.

After the initial cancer diagnosis in 2022, I was given information on how to apply for disability. I did my due diligence only to be turned down.

Why?

Two reasons:

  1. During the ten years of homelessness, I didn’t generate enough income for social security or insurance.
  2. My husband makes too much.

The two reasons above were confirmed by a law firm on July 8 of this year. Mind you, they take $1200/mo out of the paycheck to pay for health insurance and we are still responsible for a $6,000 deductible.

Anywho…

Enough about the money woes. I don’t want to bog you down with that. I want to introduce you to two adversaries of mine:

Cissy (Cisplatin) and Traxie (Paclitaxel) have moved in and refused to pay rent. They don’t even help me clean, nope. These little ninjas are insidious. When I am feeling energetic and ready to get things done, Ole Cissy waits until I am halfway done and smacks me with her magic sleepy dust. Since I remember her from last year, I can generally fight it off until about 6 in the afternoon. Then I am mush from the brain to the body, and I tend to doze off on the couch.

I was told Traxie causes joint and bone pain, and she’s found every joint and bone I abused as a kid. She hasn’t given me debilitating pain, but she reminds me I scraped my right shin, sprained both my ankles, and smacked both of my knees. It fun.

Traxies has also decided to make the bottoms of my feet and my toes go ALMOST numb. When she does this, I stop what I am doing and wiggle my toes, and move my feet to make sure I am not the one causing the issue. I am prone to sitting on one leg until it’s completely gone on vacation, and then trying to wake it up.

Eating with the two ninjas on duty has proven to be a challenge. There are some days I can go all day with a problem only to have to take a pill for nausea after breakfast the next day.

Never a dull moment with those two for sure.

No Laptop Weekends…

This past weekend, I made the decision to put up my laptop and limit my socials to 15 minutes. Words cannot describe how relaxing it is to unplug from the internet, catch up on reading, and turn on music to let the creativity flow! Instead of a laptop and keyboard, I have pen and paper. I loved it! It was liberating. I am going to do it every weekend. You guys should really try it. Pick two days out of the week and just drop off the face of the internet. Just warn your friends first. They do worry.

Until next time,

Anissa “Maddy” Walker
